Advenica leads Vinnova-funded research project on the security of the future

Hardware is developed in globally distributed manufacturing chains with many actors. Much can go wrong in these manufacturing chains, where malfunctions can be introduced unintentionally or with malicious intent. Unintended malfunctions can result from design flaws or manufacturing defects. Aging and process variations can also cause malfunctions after some time in operation. Intentional malfunctions can be hardware trojans (HT), which are a malicious and deliberate modification of the hardware. HT can be introduced at various points in the production chain. A logic block with HT can, for example, be integrated into the design flow, or introduced after manufacturing the system.

The purpose of the research project is to analyze, understand and develop methods for security against HT that can attack hardware at various times in globally distributed manufacturing chains. Advenica is driving this research project and through the project gets the opportunity to participate and actively contribute to the development of knowledge in this interesting research area.

“Advenica’s goal with this research project is to gain increased knowledge in the development of secure systems, which can contribute to new or improved products in the future,” says Marie Bengtsson, CEO of Advenica.”
